E Hoʻolako Kākou

E Hoʻolako Kākou was a full SATB (plus band) arrangement by Aaron Mahi that was commissioned by the Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band and premiered on November 13, 2010 as the finale of the first annual Hoʻolōkahi High School Choral Festival held at the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall.

Included in the medley were "Nani Ke Ao Nei" (Mary Kawena Pukui), "Ka Naʻi Aupuni" (Kauʻikeaoli), and "Ke Alaula" (William Panui and Louis "Moon" Kauaikahi).

Israel Kamakawiwoʻole Medley

Matt Catingub, the former pops conductor of the Honolulu and Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestras, was commissioned by the Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band to arrange a medley of songs, which were performed by the beloved late Israel Kamakawiwoʻole.  The songs in the medley, which were actually selected by members of the Royal Hawaiian Band, are "Hawaiʻi 78," "White Sandy Beach of Hawaiʻi," "In This Life," "Henehene Kou ʻAka," "Ulilie," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."  The Royal Hawaiian Band premiered this new arrangement at the Friends’ annual membership meeting on March 16th, 2013, at the Queen Emma Summer Palace.

Hawaiian Hits Medley 2009

In 2009, the Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band elected to approach Matt Catingub regarding the possibility of accepting a commission to orchestrate two new arrangements for the band.  The first of these two arrangements became a wonderful medley of songs titled "Hawaiian Hits Medley 2009."  The medley included "Napua," "Kawaipunahele," "Flying With Angels," "Island Style," "Home In The Islands," and "Haleiwa Hula."  Both this arrangement, and "Nani Waimea" (seen below), were premiered at the 2010 Annual Meeting.

Nani Waimea

"Nani Waimea" was the second of two arrangements commissioned by the Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band in 2009 and premiered by the band in 2010.  Catingub featured the trumpet section in his upbeat version of this popular contemporary Hawaiian song by Sam Koki.  The song expresses the beauty of Waimea, the composers love for Kamuela, his home, and Humuʻula on the slopes of Mauna Kea.
