2013 Hawaiian Music Award


     On Saturday, September 28, The Friends
of the Royal Hawaiian Band again sponsored the annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade Hawaiian Music Competition. This competition awarded cash prizes to the top three Hawaiʻi school bands that showcased Hawaiian marching music on the parade route. The goal of this competition is to raise awareness of the performance of Hawaiian music by our school bands, military bands, and the Royal Hawaiian Band at our colorful Waikīkī parades.

     Eight bands participated in the 2013 Hawaiian Music Award competition.

     Cash awards in the amount of $500 (first place), $300 (second place), and $200 (third place) were awarded to the school marching bands listed below.


1st Place - $500:  Moanalua High School Marching Band

Elden Seta, Director


2nd Place - $300:  Waipahu High School Marching Band

Henry Fu, Director


3rd Place - $200:  Kamehameha Schools Marching Band

Dave Gonzalez & Matt Urabe, Directors
