2009 Hawaiian Music Award


     On Saturday, September 26, The Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band proudly sponsored the Second (re-activated) Annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade Hawaiian March Competition. This competition awarded cash and plaques to the top three Hawaiʻi school bands that showcased Hawaiian marching music on the parade route. The goal of this competition is to raise awareness of the performance of Hawaiian music by our school bands, military bands, and the Royal Hawaiian Band at our colorful Waikīkī parades.

     2009 showed an increase in participation by our local ʻOahu high school and middle school bands, which was exactly what the Friends were hoping for.

     Cash awards in the amount of $500 (first place), $350 (second place), and $250 (third place) were awarded to the school marching bands listed below.
